Back On the Inside

I’m back in Los Angeles, after an intense few months in Sweden. I gave only three performances this time around, all well received and the last two sold out. One of them in concert with Norwegian country-artist extraordinaire, Tove Bøygard. In-between concerts, I took time off to get knee surgery, physical therapy and go on a week vacation to the Canary Islands to recover.

Looking at it from a neutral perspective, I feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Being on my way to recovering completely and getting in good shape for the upcoming Finding Venus album-, musical- and book release feels really good. The possibilities that lie ahead as a result of what I have accomplished so far are numerous and exciting. Producers, directors, film makers and bookers from both Europe and the US are showing a real interest in the book, musical and album. An expanded journey of traveling and broadening the horizons for Finding Venus lies afoot.

Yet, my mind is beating up on me for not having everything figured out already for the upcoming release. “Show me the money,” it says. “You should have had it all strategized, financed and in motion by now.” This is of course my workaholism at work, telling me that no matter what I do, it’s never good enough or fast enough or enough, period.

So, I try to sit back and just breathe, in the California sun, and remind myself that just for today, it’s enough just to be. Just for today it’s enough to appreciate where I’m at, how far I have come and to be excited for the journey that lies ahead. I tell myself that it’s okay to focus on getting fully back in shape before attempting another quantum leap. And it’s okay to take the time it takes to organically arrive at the most delicious solution to my dream building.

I realize that in and through all of this, getting back on the inside, looking at the world around me from the power that resides within me, is the most important course of action I can take. As I realize this, my shoulders drop and I am able to fully exhale. The moment I allow myself to just be, my mind opens wide to attract exactly who and what I need to proceed. Funny how that works 😉

Back On the Inside is on my Venus Envy album, which I co-produced with Greg Matheson and Katisse Buckingham. You can check it out by clicking here.

A Call to Action for you, my dear friends and fans:

Musically Yours,

Heartfelt Success

How do we define success in a world where incessant focus on the material and external is so starkly contrasted by inequality and struggle for survival? How dare we be so obsessed with our own hoarding and self glorification when the larger part of us, our extended family in the world and mother earth herself calls out for our focused heart connection?

Here’s my definition: Success happens when my heart and soul is enriched by my being, when I follow the song in my heart to it’s most joyous potential and let that joy reverberate in words, music and action into the world at large. My success is not defined by sales or ratings. It is measured only by my passionate involvement and how well I care for the life and talent that is available to me at any given time.

Thank YOU for being part of the passionate musical journey that sent my heart soaring in 2010! Your joyous participation helped my music expand into Sweden, New York, Washington DC, Tennessee, Arizona and more of California, and brought about a glorious gig opportunity in San Francisco for 2011.

On April 30th and May 1st, I will be representing Norway as entertainer at the Norway Day Festival in San Francisco. I have been asked to open the festival, sing the Norwegian and American national anthems, give two feature performances at the main stage (one each day) as well as several pub performances during the day. This is a great honor and I am very excited to create a most delicious music menu for this.

The menu will include songs from my most recent albums, Exposed, Being Totally Alive and Venus Envy, as well as songs from my upcoming musical, Come Hell or High Waters (which is aaaalmost ready!). I also plan to include some of my dad’s material as an honorary part of the performance, since he was one of Scandinavia’s most renowned entertainers of the last century.

Benefitting Relief Efforts in Haiti

I must admit I feel mighty small in the face of such devastating news that we are receiving daily now from Haiti. Words escape me. I’m on emotional overload. I take it in and I take it on. What can I do?

The first thing that comes to mind is to use my talent the best I can to contribute in any way that I can. So, the upcoming concert at Herr Nilsen in Oslo will definitely benefit Haiti. Secondly, the products that I have for sale can also be useful, so I’ll have 25% of all CD sales go to Haiti as well.

Other than that, I believe that our thoughts, prayers and songs and living our lives in alignment with our calling creates great energy for the world at large. So, I will continue to express the song in my heart as powerfully and as joyously as I can with my words, music, teaching and performance.

We all have the power to help and inspire. I’d say, let’s move this world into a better place by aligning with the song in our hearts and by letting that song move us into action in whatever way feels the most natural to each and every one of us. And let us listen to each other, really listen, and see how and where we can contribute most effectively to the big chorus of love and consciousness expansion that propels us forward in this time-space reality.

Let us listen to the song of Haiti and contribute with our individual hearts and voices in whatever way it moves us. We can do a lot of good here. Let’s do it!

Here’s a video of me singing my song Little Angel, recorded live at TV Follo’s Christmas special in Norway. Little Angel can be found on my CD’s, Exposed and Venus Envy.

Nurturing the Child Within

How I broke the cycle of codependency

About seven years ago, I found myself sitting in the sofa in my living room, unable to move, feeling completely helpless. Long story short, I was heartbroken from having invested a big chunk of myself into a relationship with an addict. And as a result of repeatedly not heading the deafening warning bells, I had tricked myself into believing that this person could provide me with the nurture that I needed, eventually, if I just loved them well enough. And as I sat there, as the walls of my illusion came crashing down, leaving me freezing cold and naked to the bone, all I wanted to do was cry for my mom to pick me up. Except Mom was long gone and I had no more brilliant solutions to keep me afloat on that big river in Egypt. It was over.

As I sat there, feeling the excruciating magnitude of my loneliness, without moving to fix it, the feeling intensified to the point where I thought I was going to die. And as I let myself fully embrace the death of me in that moment, a shift happened. That very moment is when I learned to nurture myself from the inside. I got up from the sofa, sat down by the grand piano and began to sing, “It’s gonna be alright you know, little angel. It’s gonna be alright you know, little angel of mine.” I finished the whole song in less than half and hour, and to this day, it is one of my favorite tunes.

Little Angel to the Movies

Little Angel was just picked up to be in the final scene going into the end credits in a movie called, Next of Kin, and can also be found on the Venus Envy CD. I have enclosed the song for your listening pleasure and the lyrics, so you can sing along:)

Little Angel by Caroline Waters (Get the CD)

It’s gonna be alright, you know, little angel
It’s gonna be alright, you know, little angel of mine

I’ll hold you close and I’ll keep you warm
Cause I love you so, little angel of mine

No one’s gonna hurt you now, little angel
No one’s gonna hurt you now, little angel of mine
I’m gonna take care of you, little angel
I’m gonna take care of you, little angel of mine

I’ll be your mom and I’ll keep you from harm
Till the end of time, little angel of mine

You’ll never be alone again, little angel
You’ll never be alone again, little angel of mine
It’s gonna be alright, you know, little angel
It’s gonna be alright, you know, little angel of mine

I’ll keep you safe and I’ll let you cry
Then I’ll see you fly, little angel of mine

It’s gonna be alright, you know, little angel
It’s gonna be alright, you know, little angel of mine
